Study Tips: ESPAÑOL 1 

STEP 1 (for quizzes) Usually at word level English to Spanish

1.    Don’t just look at vocabulary; write it in Spanish from MEMORY.

2.    Make flash cards of the words that you find to be difficult.

3.    Learn gender (masculine, feminine) whenever you learn nouns.

4.    Practice pronunciation with spelling. Spanish is very phonetic!

STEP 2 (for tests) Usually at sentence level in Spanish

5.    Looking at that chapter objectives, use vocabulary in complete sentences.

6.    Pay close attention to useful expressions (How much does it cost? – C7A)

7.    Pay close attention to sentence starters (I want to buy… -C7A)

8.    Pay close attention to patterns. LOOK FOR THE PATTERN.

9.    Pay extra attention to structures that are different from English
ex. Me gusta, me gustan, A mi gusta, A mi gustan
ex. Tengo
frío, Tengo calor, Tengo mucha sed, Tengo mucha hambre

STEP 3 (Writing Assignments) Usually at the paragraph level in Spanish

10. Brain storm sentences and vocabulary in Spanish. DO NOT WRITE IN ENGLISH.

11. Review chapter and search for useful model sentences.

12. Construct your paragraph with a lead sentences. Use transitions through out the paragraph and end the paragraph with a good closing statement.
