Computer Graphics I Ð IV

are semester courses for students who wish to learn how to use computer graphic programs to solve various art problems. Adobe Photoshop is the primary program used in all levels of Computer Graphics. In the first semester, Microsoft Publisher is also used as a layout program. In the advanced classes, Freehand and Fractal Painter are introduced. Students primarily hand create their various images. However flatbed scanners and electronic cameras may also used to capture images to be manipulated in the various programs. All final projects are expected to be completely original. At South High School, there are all levels of computer graphics students in each class. Students are therefore expected to work cooperatively with each other.

Students enrolled in Computer Graphics I

are expected to have successfully completed Concepts and Materials or have a waiver granted by the Art Department chairperson. Students will be exploring the drawing and painting capabilities of Adobe Photoshop. They will combine images produced in Photoshop with text to produce final designs. Final projects are critiqued as to the creative use of the program as well as the artistic merit of the piece.

In Computer Graphics II - IV

students will further explore graphic design problems in a variety of programs. Some projects will be commercially orientated while others will emphasize experimentation. Students may also explore manipulation of their final prints as another method of personal expression. Students are expected to work somewhat independently. Final projects are critiqued as to their success in solving the given problem as well as their visual interest.
