Fibers I and II are semester courses for students who wish to explore surface design on fabric and fabric production. This course is usually taught concurrently with Concepts and Materials, so students are working in a directed independent study environment. Fibers I, first semester, explores the various methods of applying image and design to fabric. Printmaking, applique, stitchery, quilting, marbling, trampunto, and cyanotype are various surface design techniques that may be explored. Second semester of Fibers I has the students studying methods of fiber production. Various methods of flat and basket weaving and felting are usually taught. A 3-dimentional piece is usually required as a final project for Fibers I.
