Criteria for writing Science Article Reviews

 

  1. Highlight article.

 

  1. Write a summary.

 

    1. Summarize in your own words.
    2. Use about 10 sentences at minimum to give the main facts of the article. (The “Who, What, When, Where, Why and How” of the news piece.).

 

    1. Do not put direct quotes in the summary.

 

  1. Write a Reflection.

 

    1. It must consist, at least, of seven sentences.
    2. This may be an opinion on a controversial issue (Ex: Converting a lakefront park from a previous nuclear power plant site.), or it may be simply stating your thoughts on what you read.
    3. What ever you write in your reflection you must include a direct quote (and give the expert’s name and credentials – if article provides them) to validate what you just wrote.
    4. You must include a statistic which also enriches your written reflection.
