Photography

Two and Three

4th Quarter Assignment 2008

1.

Silence:  How can you make a photograph that depicts silence?  Do not talk this out with other students.  Brainstorm ideas alone.  Make a list of ideas.  What is silence?  Where is silence found?  I do not want to see any graveyard photographs so forget that idea.  Look deeper and then photograph silence with good technical skills and print as an 8 x 10.

Due: May 2, 2008

2.

24 exposures:  You are to shoot 24 exposures on one of the following subjects:  (different) people, buildings or zoo animals.  The class will take a field trip to the zoo but if you do not attend this assignment will be required from local places such as Grosse Pointe, Harper Woods or Saint Clair Shores.  Use your best (creative and skillful) images to print three 8 x 10 photographs.

Due:  One week after the field trip.

3.

Landscape:  You are to find a few different landscape images to photograph.  You may photograph the country side (rivers, lakes, farms, woods, fields), metro or state parks, the Grosse Pointe Parks, The Hunt Club, or public gardens.  Some of these things are in walking distance from school and others you need to okay with your parents … make three 8 x 10 prints.

Due:  May 9, 2008.

4.

Art Show Photographs:  Three of your very best photographs from third and fourth quarter must be matted and submitted for North’s Spring Art Show.  Students that submitted portfolios to Scholastic Art for consideration may have a board to themselves in the art show.

Due: May 2, 2008.

5.

Picture in a Picture in a Picture in a Picture:  This is the end result of a yearlong assignment.  Each quarter you were to make a new film based image printed as an 8 x 10 or 11 x 14 that was to be included in the next photograph. The final 8 x 10 or 11 x 14 print must have the first photograph, in the second photograph and the second photograph in the third photograph and the third photograph in the final fourth photograph.

For extra credit you may frame all four images in one mat.

Due:  May 16, 2008.

6.

Jumping Jack Puppet:  Take a few photographs of the person you want to make into the puppet.  They should be full person filling the vertical frame and looking face forward into the camera.  Print two 8 x 10 photographs of the same negative and make into a puppet.

Due:  May 23, 2008.
