Badminton Rules:

 Description of the Activity:  

Scoring:

1.        The serving side only can score points.

2.      Girls’ badminton games are played to eleven; boys’ to 15 win by 2 points.

3.      Change courts at the end of each game, with the winner team serving first. 

Serving Rules:

1.        The bird must be struck below the waist.

2.      The racquet head must be below the server’s waist when it strikes the bird.

3.      It is a fault when:

The bird lands outside the receiver’s service court.

The server fakes or feigns a serve.

bullet

The server makes contact, but fails to put the bird in play.

Doubles:

1.        The serve always starts in the right-hand court.

2.      The serve is always made into the diagonally opposite court.

3.      If the point is made, change to the other court and continue serving.

4.     A bird that lands on a line is good.

5.            At the beginning of a game or set, the player on the right side serves first.  If he of she loses the point, the side is out.  The other team gets to serve and begins the two player per team service rule.

6.     If the server fails to hit the bird, he or she gets one more try.

7.      The server loses the serve if:

The bird falls short of the service line.

The bird lands over the back line, or outside the sidelines.

8.      If the receiver accepts the serve, by contacting it, then the bird is in play.

9.     If the serve hits the net and continues over into the correct service court, it is in play. 

Singles:

1.        The serve starts in the right-hand court.  If a point is scored, both players move across to their left courts.  If no point is made, both players stay in their right courts for the opponent’s serve. 

2.      All the above rules for Doubles apply to Singles.
