STUDENT AWARDS - 2006BIG
YEAR FOR GP TELEVISION PRODUCTION!
From the beginning of January to May is the
student film festival season for many of the high school television
production programs throughout the State of Michigan, and TV Production
students from South High School Television programs stood up to the
competition. Throughout the spring, sponsoring organizations were: Detroit
Area Film & Television (DAFT), Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA),
and the Michigan Skiing and Snowboarding Association.
On April 30, 2006, Grosse Pointe Television
students were represented at the Detroit Area Film and Television (DAFT)
Student Film and Video Festival held at the Detroit Institute of Arts’ Film
Theater. Grosse Pointe TV students received awards for Excellence and Honor.
The award for Excellence was given to South’s - Matthew N., PJ R., Matthew
H. and Scott M. for their Pink Floyd music video, skiing commercial, and
their Dangers of Alcohol – Positions PSA. Also awarded Excellence was
Andrew M., Cory D., Shannon M., and Tim C. for their Ystra Agem music
video, and Michael R. for his Skiing in Michigan commercial.
Grosse
Pointe Honor winners from South were awarded to the GPS Video Club for their
episode of South Side.
At the Michigan
Interscholastic Press Association, individual winners included: Lisa
H. (GPS) third place for Reporting. Michael R. for Commercial, Justin G. &
Steve R. for Show Opener, Lisa H. & Tim S. for Anchor, and GPS Video Club
for Short Film for South.
In March, South had two commercial projects
chosen as a top ten finalists from over 200 videos for the Michigan Ski &
Ride Video Student Competition sponsored by the Michigan Snowsports
Industries Associations. The objective of the competition was to create a
30-second television commercial that showcased skiing and snowboarding in
Michigan. Robinson created a commercial that visually featured the exciting
sport of snowboarding. While the group of Russ, Naber, Maxwell, and
Hollerbach produced a commercial illustrating the attraction of Michigan
Skiing. Both commercials were displayed at the Ski & Ride Film Festival at
Crystal Mountain.
