Spelling/

Go to Mr. Gulian's page, this spelling link is not working/updated.

Any spelling homework not turned in on time will cause the loss of a whole grade on the weekly spelling test. One grade will be deducted for each assignment not turned in. See examples below.

Spelling test grade Did not turn in three times in cursive Turned in sentences Turned in grouping Final grade
A -1     B
Spelling test grade Did not turn in three times in cursive Did not turn in sentences Turned in grouping Final grade
B -1 -1   D

This is the format for spelling homework.

Monday- Students get a pretest at school. The first 15 words that they miss will become their spelling list.  Also, there are 2 sentences on their refrigerator list.  These will be dictated on Friday's test for a grammar grade.

Weekly Spelling Homework:

Capitalization, Usage, Punctuation, and Spelling  count.  CUPS!

Mon.-Write each word three times, in cursive.  Take a practice test at home and correct it. Write any misspelled words 5 times each.

Tues.-  Write sentences that show you know the meanings of 10 of your 15 spelling words.  Take a practice test at home and correct it. Write any misspelled words 5 times each.

Wed.- Rather than alphabetizing I would like the students to GROUP their words.  This can be done in a number of ways.  They may look at prefixes or suffixes, they can group colors, feeling words or verbs.  Some students will group double consonants or words with vowels that are they same.  The point is to get students to THINK about their word list. As long as they have two or three groups I'll accept it.  Sometimes their creative thinking will surprise me. I've talked to them about this at school.  Let me know if you have any questions. Take a practice test at home and correct it. Write any misspelled words 5 times each.

Thur.- Have someone give you another practice test at home, and correct it. Write any misspelled words 5 times each.

Fri.- No homework, celebrate your success!
