Our Radio Astronomy Team has an annual trip to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia. It is located in a valley and is part of the National Radio Quiet Zone making it one of the premier sites for Radio Astronomy. The trip is usually 4 days long taking place over spring break. While we are there, we are given observation time on their 40 ft. transit telescope. Each person on the trip is responsible for the operation of the telescope several times over the 4 day span, giving all of the club members first hand in experience in operating a radio telescope. On the trip we also tour the facilities seeing the laboratories as well as the other telescopes. We are often given the opportunity to attend various lectures from staff and guests of the facility. While not observing we are allowed to explore the observatory's property as well as some of the surrounding area.
