 | Have a family schedule to help children understand how punctuality helps
everyone. |
 | Make preparing for school fun! You may wish to provide praise,
rewards and penalties to help support your goal. |
 | Creating a goal chart and awarding stars or stickers is one way to keep
track of progress. |
 | To help your child begin to manage his/her morning routine, you may wish
to use a timer or a favorite CD. When your child wakes in the morning,
begin the CD. By the time the first song ends, your child should have brushed
his/her teeth. When the third song is over, he/she should be dressed.
After these goals have been achieved and become routine, you may wish to add
an additional responsibility like bed-making. |
 | Choose a time that best fits your family schedule to complete homework and don't
change or substitute the time. Having a predetermined time each night to
devote to reading is one way to help your child succeed. Your child
should be reading for 10 - 15 minutes each night. Reading logs should be
updated and returned to their proper place so that they can be returned for
check-in at the end of each month. |
 | Designate a time that will be reserved each evening for preparing lunches,
choosing a healthy snack, packing a backpack and checking for the appropriate
related arts needs i.e. gym shoes, library books. |
 | Have a set bedtime routine as well. It is important to stick to your
family schedule. |
