Course Objectives 

	Provide a positive learning environment that supports the general ed curriculum
	Motivate students to be active learners
	Teach organizational skills to enhance learning
	Teach problem solving skills
	Teach self-advocacy skills and encourage students to be independent thinkers
	Offer students assistance in academics as well as personal issues
	Modify the curriculum, instruction and assessment when deemed necessary
	Offer assistance to general ed teachers who are working with my students

Policies and Expectations 

	Students fill out their assignment books and bring them to skills class
	Students work on academic subjects and seek assistance when necessary
	Cooperate with peers and adults in the classroom
	Students complete the remainder of their homework at home

Parent Participation 

	Use the student’s assignment book, Pinnacle and email as a means of communication
	Encourage students to consistently complete their homework (about 1 hour & 30 minutes nightly)
	Encourage students to live up to his/her potential and responsibilities

GRADING CRITERIA:

3 points can be earned each skills class period each day

15 possible points per week.

CRITERIA FOR DAILY GRADE:

Each day the student has the option to earn points for the following:

1—student brings and completes his/her assignment book and in addition student must bring all necessary texts and materials

1—student works on academic subjects during the skills hour

1—student cooperates with peers and adults in the classroom
