Broadcast Journalism/TV Production
The 1st hour class is currently learning the fine points of video editing using Casablanca non-linear editing suites. Their primary responsibility is to shoot and edit segments that will be aired on either WPNC daily news shows or the bi-monthly Pierce Pride shows. Tracking sports teams, student interviews, classroom visits, and coverage of special events are all included in their weekly agenda. This group of students are all new to the program with the exception of a few who took Broadcast Journalism for one semester last year. The 2nd hour class is filled with 30 energetic students whose responsibilities primarily lie in the finished production of the Pierce Pride shows. They also produce individual segments for the show as well as adding the "Masters of Ceremonies" for the production. The class is "split" between lifers and newbies depending on their level of past experience. Students are all being trained on the Casablanca editing suites. The 6th hour class is mixed with both newbies and lifers. This group of students' sloe responsibility is the quality, daily production of our live daily news broadcast. Stories are gathered from various internet resources, inside and around Pierce, and generated by the students themselves. The info is assembled by the student producer, associated photos gathered from media sources by the PowerPoint operator, sound levels determined and set by an audio control student, camera angles finalized, cue cards are printed and rehearsed. The show goes "LIVE" Mondays @ 3:10 and 3:00 Tuesdays through Fridays.
