AP Lit: Final Project
Your final project (and your final exam) is to complete an independent reading and presentation. Here is the protocol:
Verify your book title with me.
Work/Enjoy the project in class and at home, reading and writing.
Give a 5-minute presentation during your assigned time slot,
Identifying the title & Author
Providing a brief overview of the work
Providing a Recommendation and Rationale (Should we read it this summer, and Why?)
Written Components
Final Report (Due the Day of the Exam)
i. Title and Author
ii. Author Legacy (requires some outside research)
1. For what is the author famous/known?
2. To what “school” or “movement” does this person belong?
3. Is this work typical of this author?
4. Any pertinent/significant/salient biographical information (we do NOT want a blow-by-blow biography)?
iii. Overview of the work (what happens?)
iv. Major Themes & Issues (why does it happen?)
v. Major Methods (how does it happen? POV, symbols, characterization, etc. etc.)
vi. Final Evaluation
1. Will this work endure?
2. Recommendation & Rationale: Is it worth reading?
GRADES:
Daily Productivity: Read and work quietly in class: there is a daily grade/point value. If you finish the novel and presentation, BEGIN another book. You will NOT be a distraction.
Journals: 4 of them, one page each, due twice a week for the next two weeks (see calendar). Journals Due: Tues 5/13, Fri 5/16, Monday 5/19, Thurs 5/22. Journal entries are essentially reading response logs and a status report: tell me where you are in your novel AND what you’ve accomplished for your presentation. These grades will be entered into the 4th quarter.
The Presentation: BE PREPARED!
Presentation notes
i. Everyone will take notes on everyone else’s presentation (nice try). Those notes will be turned in and represent the final grade entered in the fourth quarter.
