Where I've Been I grew up
the youngest of three girls, in Walled Lake, Michigan, which is located about 30 miles northwest of Detroit. I had many hobbies as a child, most notably, Highland Dancing (Scottish with bagpipes and kilts),
music (cello), art and long distance running. I've been running since 1977! I
graduated from Walled Lake Central High School in 1983 and then attended Michigan State University where I had eight majors before getting out with a business degree I never wanted and never used!
My Life As An Educator
Right after graduating from MSU, I moved to Athens, Georgia, where I spent the next
twelve years of life. I worked for a catering company while going back to
school (University of Georgia) to complete a Bachelor's and Masters degree
in English Education. After that, I stuck around Georgia teaching for five years at two high schools before moving back to Michigan in 2000. Currently, I am in my
sixth year of teaching in Grosse Pointe. This year I am teaching 9th
Grade Honors English, American Literature Honors, and Classics of World
Literature.
I pride myself on creative projects and the humor I try to bring to everyday
classes.
When I'm Not Working
Usually, I'm running! I coach boys cross country and girls track at Grosse Pointe North High
School. I am also a marathoner/ultra marathoner. I've completed eight marathons
and two ultras (50 mile races). My 'wildest dream' goal for running would be to
complete a marathon in each state and D.C. I am also a writer. Mainly I write creative nonfiction: essays about my childhood and 12 years spent in Athens. One day I hope to publish my autobiography. I also love to travel. I've been to Spain, Dominican Republic, Mexico, England, Ireland, Wales,
Italy, and France. This past summer I traveled around North
America including trips to Toronto; Montreal; Salem, Massachusetts;
Vail, Colorado; and the Leelanau Peninsula. One day I hope to get to
Scotland. My most memorable travel experiences have been repelling down a
castle tower in Northern Wales and a castle wall in Assisi, Italy.
This summer I reached the summit of Mt. Elbert (elev 14,433 ft) outside of
Leadville, Colorado!
