Description of Algebra I
CP:
This
course is a traditional approach to the formal study of first year Algebra.
Algebra I builds on the increasingly generalized approach to the study of
functions and representations begun in the middle school grades. The main areas
of emphasis for Algebra I are functions and their representations. Students will
learn to simplify and factor expressions, solve linear and quadratic equations,
and systems of equations. Students will study families of functions and their
graphs including linear, quadratic, polynomial, power, exponential, and
logarithmic. Using these functions, students will model real-world situations
using data and will solve related problems.
