HOMEROOM NEWS
 | The Field
Day/Richard Walk-a-thon is scheduled
for Monday, June 1
(rain date - Tuesday, June 2). The dress
for the day is any previous WALK-A-THON shirt or Richard School shirt.
(if none- then something red, white, or blue will do!) Parent
helpers are always needed and appreciated! Please find the time to help with the event.
It is always a fun day for the kids! |
 | We are out of Kleenex! Should
you have a box to spare, we could use some here. This Spring has been
one of allergies and drippy noses, and the supplies have run out. A few
boxes would suffice! Thanks! |
 | The children will be making a fairy
tale book upon completion of the FAIRY TALE unit for reading. Please
send in $2.00 for the blank book. This will be a fun project!!
Thanks! |
 | The Grosse Pointe Public Schools is
offering CAMP INVENTION again this year. this is a one week day camp to
be held at Parcells Middle School, June 22 - 26. The cost is $245 per
student. I have had several students in the past participate in the camp
and have found it very fun. The children participate in problem solving
and inventing activities. The camp truly allows the children to become
better thinkers and tinkers. |
 | The END OF THE YEAR PICNIC is
TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 11:30 - 3:30. Please contact Mrs. Frasier if you would like to help.
Thanks for planning the picnic, Mrs. Frasier! I know it will be
terrific! |
 | SNACKS - I don't mind that the
children have a snack, though most children are choosing not to have a snack.
If your child needs a snack, please pack a dry, healthy snack; a handful of
crackers, pretzels, or half an apple (I know it is wet, but it is not juicy).
Let's keep cookies, Fritos, brownies, gummy fruit snacks for home or lunches.
|
UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS
 | The END OF THE YEAR PICNIC will need drivers.
Soon as the permission slip is sent home, please return it. We will need
drivers for this fun day at the park! |

NEWS FROM THE SPECIALS
Library
Back
from spring break, the third graders are hard at work “Doing Dewey,”
exploring the elegant classification system that has endured in libraries since
the mid-nineteenth century. Games and a scavenger hunt will help students
decode call numbers and navigate our non-fiction collection with more
confidence. We’ll wrap up our Dewey unit by creating “Dewey Favorites”
bookmarks to share with our classmates. “Cinderella Around the World” and book
reviews will ease us into June!
Children’s Book Week is May
11-17th and the library is celebrating with a bookmark contest!
Entry forms will be distributed in library classes and will be due by Friday,
May 8th so that grade-level winners can be announced during
Children’s Book Week.
In honor of Children’s Book
Week, the Children’s Book Council is sponsoring their annual Children’s Choice
Book Awards. Your students (and you) can cast your votes at:
http://www.bookweekonline.com/index_vote.html.
Happy Signs-of-Spring!
