Life Skills is a class that is an elective and offered to all 6th grade students.
This is a course that offers the students a variety of exciting units packed
with very valuable information that will aid to their success in making
valuable decisions and choices in their everyday life. The units that
are taught are babysitting, laundry care, sewing construction, and cooking.
The students will be involved in a "hands on" experience, learning how to
use a sewing machine and will construct a very professional looking pillowcase.
The pride that they exude when they are finished with this project far out
ways any struggles they may have had along the way. This unit will also
include a laundry segment.
I welcome parents to come in to class to help us during the sewing unit.
Your help is invaluable both to me and to the students! A BIG thank you to all the parents who give of their time and talents so
generously.
The cooking unit is a unit where the students are also
involved in "hands on" food preparation in the kitchen labs working in
groups of 4 preparing and eating simple nutritional foods/snacks. They
become very confident using kitchen tools, preparing foods, and making wise
nutritional food
choices.
The babysitting unit consists of learning how to care for
children properly and become aware of various situations that may arise when
left with the responsibility of caring for younger children.
