Text Box: Foods class is taken after the student has taken Life Skills or Life Management.  It is very important that the student take  the Life Skills or Life Management class first as foods is introduced in these classes and they receive the basics of the subject.  In the food classes the student will study  the subject of foods in further depth.
We  explore the food pyramid and analyze our own food intake or “diets” by keeping track of what we eat.  The students will select foods to prepare in class under each of the food groups. Proper nutrition is so important at this age and I stress this all semester.  We work on changing one bad food habit.
Working as a team in each kitchen is also  very important.  I often speak to adults who own businesses and they share with me information about team work among their employees and how difficult it is for their employees to work together as a team in the world of work.  In class we discuss  the importance of communicating, negotiating, and coming up with equitable solutions, engaging  and participating in successful team work in class.
Foreign foods unit is another unit of study where the students work in teams to study a country, report on that country and prepare the food for that country.
