CALENDAR Learning Counts At A Glance Student Work
Honors Biology is a challenging, high level course for students who aspire to an advanced level of learning. The curriculum is vertically aligned with the AP Biology overarching topics—Molecules and Cells, Heredity and Evolution, and Organisms and Populations. Biochemistry, Energetics, Cytology, Molecular Genetics, Population Genetics, Taxonomy,  Ecology, Immunology, Plant and Animal Physiology are subtopic units of study.

Students will  enjoy experiences that reflect the inherent rigor of honors level science. Activities include student initiated I-searches; lab investigations including student design elements; technology applications; problem-based assignments, individualized field trips; and collaborative discussions.
Technology will be applied throughout the course.

Students are expected to keep an academic binder complete with class work, weekly goals and reflective thoughts on their learning. Preparing for quizzes, tests, exams; completing labs, I-searches and assignments; and reviewing each day’s lesson, increases student achievement. Students in need of additional help are encouraged to make arrangements with me before or after school.

I commit to my students to come to class prepared with activities, labs, and lessons that bring out the
best brainwork. I strive to bring enthusiasm , challenge, and meaning into the learning process.

Honors Biology students make the following commitments:

bulletBe responsible for your behavior
bulletWork to your highest potential
bulletLive by the Golden Rule
bulletParticipate in class activities

Together, we will ensure success in the Honors Biology classroom.  I look forward to an awesome year and I encourage you to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns.

Thank You,
Sue Speirs
