Giving students experiences with many different kinds
of motion!
- Nurturing the curiosity
and interest in the Motion of Objects
- Measuring and tracing an
objects position over time
- Changing the position
and motion of objects by pushing or pulling
- Exploring and describing
how and why things move the way they do
- Observing and comparing
a variety of motions
- Observing and describing
the movement of the sun, moon and stars
- Investigating the
relationship between force and motion--force as a relation between objects
- Analyzing everyday and
not-so-everyday machines/tools/living things for how they move
- Expanding the Motion
Vocabulary
BASIC BENCHMARKS PROJECT 2061 ATLAS
- The way to change how something is moving is to give
it a push or a pull.
- Things move in many different ways, such as straight,
zigzag, round and round, back and forth, and fast and slow.
- Changes in speed or direction of motion are caused by
forces.
- The greater the force is, the greater the change in
motion will be.
- The motion of an object is always judged with respect
to some other object or point.
- If a force acts toward a single center, the objects
path may curve into an orbit around the center.
- An unbalanced force acting on an object changes its
speed or directions of motion or both.
