The work of scientists has a tremendous impact on society. Therefore, it is very important to share scientific findings in order for progress to occur. These findings may be shared in a variety of ways--through papers published in scientific journals and at meetings held on the topics of science. By sharing scientific information, scientists are able to:

1) inform others about their work
2) stay well-informed of the scientific developments around the globe
3) open their ideas to scrutiny and criticism by other scientists
