HUMANS AND THE HYDROSPHERE
Humans use large amounts of fresh water from our streams, lakes
and underground sources. In some cases, these withdrawals have
led to groundwater depletion or the movement of ocean water into
the aquifers. Humans modify the quality of freshwater. Do you
drink bottled water? Do you filter your drinking water? WHY?
Humans add nutrients like water-soluble phosphates / nitrates,
and other pollutants, disease-causing organisms, acids, salts,
and toxic metals like mercury and lead, sediment or suspended
matter mostly when soil is eroded from land, heat, genetic
pollution ( introducing non-native species)...How have humans
changed the oceans? How has technology affected glaciers?
Just as humans have an effect on the waters of the hydrosphere,
these waters can also affect human activity. El Nino'
The moderating effect on climates of oceans and lakes, ample
amounts of rainfall and/or snowfall, along with a lack of
extremes in temperatures, are ways in which water could affect
human activity.
