endolethial cells: the cells that line the interior of veins and arteries

filovirus: a member of the virus family called Filoviridae; can cause severe hemorrhagic fever in humans and primates

glycoprotein: a protein with sugars attached

macrophage: type of white blood cell that resides in tissues, out of the bloodstream, where it attacks foreign substances and helps the rest of the immune system identify harmful toxins, bacteria, and viruses.

neutrophil: front-line troops of the immune system that engulf and destroy invading viruses and bacteria

reservoir host: an animal or arthropod who serves as a reproductive site for a virus; usually asymptomatic

zoonotic: animal borne, as in disease; originates in animals
