Home American Literature Freshman Assist Expository Reading Writing Word Work Parent Involvement

Strategic literacy instruction significantly improves the reading and writing growth of secondary level students.

National Assessment of Educational Progress (2005)

Classic works of literature transcend time because they allow us to explore the human condition and examine ourselves.

The goal of secondary English Language Arts is to create and refine literate, thoughtful readers and writers capable of commanding language effectively as they negotiate an increasingly complex and information-rich world. Students will refine specific skills and strategies in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing, and use these tools to explore and respond to language in powerful ways.
