Below, you will find some images of Art Deco hotels and other buildings in Miami that I took during one of our breaks in 2008. Art Deco to me represents a wonderful time when architecture was giddy with the concept of “modern.” If you look at some of the innovations of the German Bauhaus School, you will see many parallels - for example, windows that span the corner of a building, fun geometric design, flat roofs, and a definite break from the past. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Most of them were taken at night with a 3 or 4 second delay allowing good quality images to emerge from low light conditions. As you can see, they use light to really play up the beauty of these structures. I used a tripod and a timer so that my pushing of the button wouldn’t interfere with the image.
