This course is intended as a guidance course for future parents and to help those who are  anticipating a career in which they will work with children.  The physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development of children ages birth through six is studied in depth.  Other topics of study include: age appropriate activity and toy selection, discipline strategies, birth defects and observation techniques.  A new component of the program allows students the opportunity to "parent" an "infant simulator" for two days.  The "Baby think It Over Dolls" give students a realistic experience of life with an infant.  Students who experience success, have the opportunity during the second half of the course to observe children closely by taking part in a guided experience in a kindergarten of the Grosse Pointe Public School System, or in a nursery school or day care center in the area.  A major purpose of the course is to aid students in gaining a deeper understanding of children, and thus, indirectly, of themselves and others.
