Health Education is a required course in which students learn to accept responsibility for personal health decisions and practices, and work with others to support and maintain a healthful society.  Students study topics on personal health, safety, and accidents, substance use and abuse, emotional and mental health, nutrition, physical fitness, family health, human growth/sexuality, and development and disease prevention and control. This version of the required Health Education course includes a short unit of approximately 3 days which expands the regular study of human sexuality to include information about family planning and contraception set within a framework of personal responsibility, self-respect, and the freedom to say no.  Parents who do not want their children to receive instruction in this aspect of human sexuality should not approve enrollment in this version of Health Education.
