10 Helpful Tips

10 Tips on how to do well and keep up in Spanish:

1.     Purchase a planner and keep track of all assignments, test dates and grades.

2.   Use the on-line capabilities that the book and my website have to offer.  Log on and get more practice!

3.   Find a study buddy and quiz each other regularly and especially before exams/quizzes.

4.   FOR VOCABULARY: Review your flashcards often, not just the day you do them.  Label items in your house that apply to the chapter.  Ask me for “vocube”, “battleship”, or "ramones" handouts to practice vocabulary on your own.  Create your own list of “definitions” or “clues” for vocabulary words you have a hard time remembering.

5.    Use Spanish with your friends, around school, and at home.

6.   Don’t do your homework “on-the-fly”, when you are hungry, or too tired!  Take time to do quality work and review it when you are done.

7.    Read out-loud in Spanish, even if it’s just reading your homework to yourself.  It helps to build your confidence when you speak.  Tape/digital recorders are also helpful for speaking practice.

8.   Translate sentences on your own from time to time, it reinforces that you know the vocabulary/grammar and you understand what you are saying!

9.   Always read the chapter objectives and refer back to them throughout the chapter.  Use the last pages of the chapter to review for the exam.

10.  Come see me right away with any questions or concerns.  I can tutor you or set you up with someone else who can.
